Family Hit by Car in Crawley: Woman Killed, Girl and Teen in Hospital

emergency services respond to devastating crash on Saturday evening.

A man is in police custody this morning following a tragic collision that claimed the life of a young woman and left two others seriously injured outside Crawley Leisure Park.

Emergency services were called to London Road at around 8:36pm on Saturday, April 12, after a grey BMW 3 Series mounted the pavement and struck three pedestrians.

A 25-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 12-year-old sister and 19-year-old cousin, all from the local area, sustained serious injuries and remain in hospital receiving treatment. Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

A 33-year-old man from Crawley was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs. He remains in custody as investigations continue.

Chief Inspector James Davidson of Sussex Police said: “Our thoughts are with the victims’ family at this difficult time and we ask that the public respect their right to privacy.

I’d like to reassure the community that we swiftly arrested a suspect in connection with this tragic incident, and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances.

The collision occurred in a well-populated area, and we’re urging anyone who witnessed it or may have footage — from mobiles, dash cams or CCTV — to please come forward.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact police online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Roberton, or by emailing: collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk
