Fatal Dog Attack on Sheep in Ashdown Forest

Officials Urge Community to Report Incidents and Keep Dogs on Leads

Ashdown Forest officials are saddened to report that a sheep was attacked by a dog on the night of June 6th or early on June 7th. The incident took place in the permanent grazing enclosure on the South Chase. The ewe, suffering from bite injuries on her back legs, was found near the Duddleswell cattle grid and was promptly taken to Crest Farm for treatment.

Her owner has been diligently working to ensure her recovery. Despite these efforts, we regret to inform you that the sheep succumbed to her injuries overnight on June 7th.

This incident highlights the importance of responsible dog ownership. Keeping dogs on leads when near livestock is crucial to prevent such tragedies. Sheep worrying is a serious crime with significant consequences for the dog, its owner, and the affected livestock.

If you have any information about this attack, please contact Ashdown Forest during office hours at 01342 823583 or email us at conservators@ashdownforest.org.

In the event that you witness a dog worrying sheep on the Forest, please call the Duty Ranger immediately at 01342 822846.
