Sussex Police have issued a statement expressing their gratitude for the kindness and support shown following the discovery of the remains of a baby in a wooded area near where Constance Marten and Mark Gordon were arrested earlier this week.

The police have been moved by the outpouring of public sorrow and the number of people who offered their help in any way they could. The investigation is now moving into a new phase, and although the Metropolitan Police will continue to be in the area, the large police presence will be scaled back.
Neighbourhood officers will continue to offer support to the local community and address any concerns. Brighton Police once again thanked the public for their patience and support throughout the operation.
They also requested that the investigation be given the space it needs to proceed, as they work to establish the full facts of what has happened. The police will continue to support the Metropolitan Police’s enquiries.
