Girl Airlifted to Hospital After Being Hit by Car in Newhaven

Lewes Road closed for hours as emergency services respond to serious collision

A girl has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car on Lewes Road in Newhaven on Monday evening (30 June).

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 4.25pm following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.

South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) confirmed crews were joined by the Air Ambulance Charity Kent, Surrey, Sussex to assess and treat the injured girl at the scene. She was later flown to King’s College Hospital in London for further medical treatment.

A Sussex Police spokesperson issued the following statement:

“Emergency services were called to a collision between a car and a pedestrian in Lewes Road, Newhaven at around 4.30pm on Monday (30 June).
A girl was taken to hospital and is being treated for her injuries.
A section of the road was closed which has since reopened.
We ask that anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any relevant information such as CCTV or dashcam footage reports it to us.
Email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk quoting Operation Buttercup.”

The full extent of the girl’s injuries has not yet been confirmed.
