Sussex Police Investigate Fire Causing Thousands in Damage

Sussex Police are seeking witnesses following a deliberate fire that caused significant damage to Hailsham Town Football Club’s recreation ground in Western Road.

On Tuesday evening (12 November), conifers near the stand were set alight around 7 pm, resulting in extensive damage estimated at £35,000. The fire, believed to be an act of arson, caused considerable destruction but, fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Police Call for Information and Evidence

PC Luke Ceschin, leading the investigation, emphasized the importance of community cooperation. “We believe a number of people were in the area at the time the fire started, and it is fortunate that no one was injured,” he said.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. They are particularly interested in securing any relevant footage, including dash cam recordings from vehicles passing through the area around the time of the fire.

How to Assist the Investigation

Sussex Police have asked anyone who may have details or evidence to help their investigation to get in touch. Individuals can provide information online via the police website or call 101, quoting serial number 1235 of 12/11.

This incident has left a significant mark on the community, with the club and its supporters facing the impact of the damage. The police remain committed to identifying those responsible and ensuring justice is served.
