Thousands of residents in St Leonard’s and Hastings found themselves without water this morning due to a burst water main on the Southern Water network, causing chaotic scenes at local supermarkets as people rushed to secure bottled water.

The burst occurred in a densely wooded area, complicating the repair efforts. Southern Water has confirmed that machinery is now on site, and crews have begun the necessary work to fix the water main. However, the challenging nature of the location means repairs are expected to extend well into the weekend.

Important Update for Residents:
In response to the emergency, Southern Water has set up three bottled water stations at strategic locations to ensure residents have access to drinking water. The stations are located at:
- ASDA, St Leonards-on-Sea, TN37 7AA
- Tesco – Church Wood Drive, St Leonards, Hastings, Saint Leonards-on-Sea, TN38 9RB
- Sea Road, Hastings, TN38 OAG
Long lines and anxious crowds were seen this morning at Tesco in Hastings as residents gathered to collect water, highlighting the urgent need for a swift resolution.
Support for Vulnerable Customers:
Southern Water is also ensuring that vulnerable customers, especially those on the Priority Services Register, receive bottled water directly. Anyone in need of water for medical reasons, or who is considered vulnerable, is encouraged to call Southern Water at 0330 303 0368 for assistance.
