Human Remains Found Near Brighton Identified as Missing Jersey Woman Anne Potter

Anne Potter was reported missing in Jersey in autumn 2024. DNA has now confirmed that remains found near Brighton and Ovingdean in December belong to her, with a UK Coroner to review the case.

The States of Jersey Police have confirmed that remains found on beaches near Brighton in December 2024 have been formally identified as those of Anne Potter, a woman reported missing from Jersey last autumn.

Anne was last seen in autumn 2024, prompting an extensive multi-agency search effort. Despite widespread appeals and coordinated land and sea searches, she was not located at the time.

New details confirm that Sussex Police received two reports of human remains being discovered:

  • On 11 December 2024, remains were found on a beach near Brighton
  • On 25 December 2024, further remains were located on Ovingdean beach

Following DNA analysis, both sets of remains have now been confirmed to be those of Anne Potter.

In a statement released on Friday, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Hafey, who led the investigation, said:

“We must unfortunately confirm the death of Anne Potter who went missing in Jersey last autumn. Remains were located on beaches near Brighton, which have now been confirmed as a DNA match with Anne.
Anne was reported missing to the SOJP, prompting an immediate multi-agency response. Despite extensive search efforts, Anne was not located.
Our thoughts are with her husband, family, and friends.”

A UK Coroner is now set to consider the circumstances surrounding Anne’s death.

No further details have been released at this stage. Authorities continue to support Anne’s loved ones during this difficult time.
