Jail Sentence for Hastings Shoplifter

Tesco, Marks and Spencer, among businesses affected

A woman from Hastings has been sentenced to prison after engaging in a series of thefts across local businesses.

40-year-old Rona Colvin, residing at St Helens Crescent, faced charges including 11 instances of shoplifting and one assault charge, spanning from 23 December to 10 February.

During a hearing at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 12 February, Colvin received a 14-week prison sentence after admitting guilt to all charges brought against her.

Her criminal activities involved thefts from several retailers such as Tesco, Marks and Spencer, Primark, and Trespass, with stolen goods totaling over £1000, including items like ski jackets and chocolate.

Additionally, Colvin was involved in an assault on a shop manager who attempted to stop her during one of her thefts.

Sergeant Jo Seabridge, of the Hastings Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Colvin is well-known for her previous criminal history in the area and this result demonstrates our commitment to disrupt repeat offending.

“Tackling business crime is a key focus for police. We continue to work in partnership with local businesses and organisations to address the issue and provide support.”
