M23 Shut Down Due to Multi-Vehicle Collision

Motorists Advised to Seek Alternative Routes as M23 Northbound Remains Shut Following Collision.

The M23 motorway came to a standstill following a serious multi-vehicle collision involving four vehicles during lunchtime. The incident occurred on the northbound carriageway near Gatwick Airport, leading to a significant response from emergency services.

The Kent, Surrey, and Sussex Air Ambulance swiftly attended the scene, landing on the adjacent side of the motorway. Southbound traffic was halted to facilitate their operation. Meanwhile, Surrey Roads Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECamb), and both West and Surrey Fire Services have been deployed to manage the situation.

As of 1:30 PM, Sussex Traffic Watch reported that the M23 northbound, between Gatwick Airport and the M25, remains closed due to the ongoing incident involving multiple vehicles.

The West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WFRS) confirmed their presence at the scene, stating, “We are currently in attendance at a road traffic collision on the M23 northbound near Gatwick. The road is closed near junction 9 and the M25. Please avoid the area.”

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and avoid the affected stretch of the M23 until further updates are provided. Emergency services continue to work diligently to resolve the situation and clear the carriageway. Stay tuned for more developments on this incident.
