M23 Shut Down Following Severe Multi-Vehicle Accident

Around 15 vehicles involved in a serious accident, with emergency personnel providing immediate assistance.

In a significant traffic incident this evening, the M23 has been shut down in both directions between Junctions 10 and 11 following a severe multi-vehicle collision. Emergency services rushed to the scene at approximately 5:40 pm after reports emerged of an accident involving around 15 vehicles.

The scale of the collision prompted an immediate and substantial response from emergency personnel, including multiple ambulance units, who are currently on-site assessing and treating a number of casualties. The exact number of individuals injured and the severity of their injuries are yet to be confirmed as the situation is rapidly evolving.

Authorities are urging the public to steer clear of the area to facilitate the emergency response teams’ access and to allow for a thorough investigation of the incident. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes as the M23 is expected to remain closed for an extended period, causing significant traffic disruption.

SECAmb has said “Following the multi-vehicle RTC on the M23 this evening, we have taken 4 patients to hospital with believed to be non life-threatening injuries. A further approx. 30 patients are being assessed for minor injuries and will be taken to hospital or discharged from our care.”

Update 10pm- The southbound carriageway of the M23 has reopened after a collision involving multiple vehicles. Junctions 10 and 11 northbound remain closed. Around 34 people are being treated by the ambulance service, with no life-threatening injuries.
