Man Arrested Following Reported Rape in Central Brighton

Woman in her 20s receiving support as detectives continue investigations in city centre

Arrest Made Following Incident in Manchester Street on Saturday Morning

Police have launched an appeal for information following a report of rape in Brighton.

The incident was reported by a member of the public at around 11am on Saturday, 7 June, in Manchester Street – just off St James’s Street in the city centre.

A woman in her 20s, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is receiving support from specially trained officers.

A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Kirstie Neal said:
“Detectives are investigating this incident, and we are appealing for all witnesses and anyone with information who has not already come forward to do so.

“Anyone in the area with relevant CCTV, mobile phone, doorbell or dashcam footage is also asked to get in touch.

“It took place in a busy area just off St James’s Street, and there will be an increased police presence in the area while this matter is investigated.”
