A man has been charged following reports of a person attempting to photograph children without their knowledge in Hove.
Police were called to Belfast Street and Portland Road on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 2, after concerns were raised about a man allegedly following children and secretly taking photos.
Officers responded swiftly and located a man matching the suspect’s description nearby. He was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.
The suspect, Kayode Sandham, 21, of Wilfred Road, Hove, was charged the next day with taking photographs under clothing without consent and outraging public decency.
He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Friday, April 4, where he was granted bail with strict conditions. Sandham is due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on May 2 for a further hearing.
Detective Sergeant Tom Duffy, of the Response Investigations Team, said: “This was a concerning report involving children, and officers acted quickly to identify and arrest a suspect.
We understand the distress this incident may have caused locally. We continue to maintain visible patrols in the area to offer reassurance.
