Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Knife Attack in Walberton

A 38-year-old suspect has been remanded in custody following a violent stabbing incident in Arundel

Victim Suffers Serious Injuries in Eastergate Lane Assault

A man has been charged following a serious knife assault in Walberton, Arundel, on Friday evening (June 27).

Police were called to Eastergate Lane shortly after 7.15pm where a 32-year-old woman was found with serious injuries caused by a knife. She was taken to hospital for treatment; her injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.

Melis Abzhaliev, 38, from Walberton, was arrested at the scene and later charged with attempted murder. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in court for a plea hearing on July 28.

Detective Inspector Matt Phelps of West Sussex Division said: “This was a brutal attack which left a woman seriously injured. Officers from different teams worked tirelessly to ensure a charge was obtained swiftly.”

Police confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident but are appealing to the public for any further information.
