Man detained in Crawley for large-scale cannabis operation

Police detained a man following the unearthing of an extensive cannabis cultivation in Shetland Close, Crawley.

After receiving credible information, the Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) of Sussex Police executed a raid in line with the Misuse of Drugs Act at the mentioned residence around 1pm on 16 August.

Upon entry, it was evident that every room in the house had been modified to facilitate the growth of cannabis, with a considerable number of plants spread throughout the dwelling.

The UK Power Networks team was summoned to the location, ensuring safety measures after identifying that the electricity supply had been illicitly altered.

Subsequent to this, the cannabis plants and related equipment were confiscated and destroyed. An official probe into the matter has been initiated.

Bledar Kurti, 22, with no permanent residence, was taken into custody and faces charges of producing cannabis, a Class B drug, and unauthorized electricity usage. He awaits his hearing at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 15 September.

TEU Sergeant Andy Bryant said: “Thanks to members of the public remaining vigilant and reporting their concerns relating to this property, we were able to successfully disrupt a supply chain and make an arrest.

“Criminal conduct such as this will not be tolerated by Sussex Police and we will continue to work towards terminating drug distribution routes and bringing the offenders behind these criminal operations to justice.”
