Man sentenced to eight months for assaulting Ambulance worker

In Eastbourne, a man has been sentenced to eight months in prison for assaulting an ambulance worker while under the influence of alcohol.

Jose Luis Serro Alexandre was discovered unconscious at a location on Terminus Road in Eastbourne. In response, an ambulance from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) was dispatched to assist him. SECAmb staff placed him in the ambulance.

Initially, Alexandre appeared to be calm and cooperative after regaining consciousness. However, he quickly became aggressive and verbally abusive toward the two ambulance crew members.

The 49-year-old proceeded to confront one of the ambulance workers and physically assaulted him outside the vehicle. Fortunately, the ambulance worker did not sustain serious injuries, but he needed time off from work due to pain and stress caused by the incident.

On September 15, at Lewes Crown Court, Alexandre pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker, resulting in an eight-month prison sentence. The court was informed that the assault occurred around 9 pm on May 17 of this year when Alexandre, who is unemployed and resides on Pevensey Road in Eastbourne, abruptly exited the ambulance and proceeded to kick the victim. Subsequently, the victim activated an alert button to summon assistance from ambulance colleagues, and the police promptly arrived to arrest Alexandre.
