The incident occurred at around 11am on Monday, 23 June, outside the Devonshire Public House in Terminus Road. According to police, the victim – described as wearing a green shirt – attempted to intervene in a heated argument outside the pub when he was pushed to the ground by another man.

After getting back to his feet, the victim walked towards North Street but was followed and further attacked by the same suspect.

The suspect is described as a white male, aged between 30 and 40, around 5’10” tall, of medium build, with scruffy hair and stubble. He was reportedly wearing a light grey tracksuit top at the time.

Detective Sergeant Shelley Campbell said:

“This was a vicious assault that took place in a busy area of the town and we know it will have caused concern in the community. A thorough investigation is underway, and we are looking for anyone who has any information that can help us.”

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have CCTV or dash cam footage from the area to get in touch.
