Massive Fire at Midhurst Hotel: West Sussex Fire Service Deploy Ten Engines to Scene

A blaze has broken out at a hotel located in North Street, Midhurst, West Sussex Fire Service is currently tackling the situation. The fire is reportedly significant, and as a result, ten fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, a water carrier, and an off-road vehicle have been deployed to the scene.

Local resident, Hilton Holloway, has given his account of the devastating fire.

According to Holloway, the fire started as a small roof fire on the left side of the Angel Inn, a historic building that housed Ukrainian refugees. The fire quickly spread, engulfing two buildings in total.

Holloway reported that the fire alarm of a nearby restaurant was triggered around 1 am, and at that point, the fire was relatively contained. However, within 20 minutes, the fire had spread and intensified. He went on to express his sadness over the incident, stating that “it’s a goner. Lovely old building, character of Midhurst high street.”

Sussex Police said “Sussex Police officers are assisting the fire service to keep the area safe, and working with partner agencies to support those affected. Road closures will be in place in the local area while this incident is dealt with. Further updates will be provided in due course.”

Residents in the vicinity of the hotel have been advised to keep their windows shut due to the dense smoke that has engulfed the area.

It is still unclear what caused the fire, Further information to follow
