Officers Attacked in Battle and Tunbridge Wells – Suspect Arrested

Kent BTP apprehended a male yesterday (27th of December 2023) at Tunbridge Wells Railway Station following an incident involving the assault of two officers. The officers urgently requested backup when the male, wanted for assaulting an officer and a member of the public in Battle, arrived at the railway station.

During their attempt to detain the suspect, both officers were subjected to a violent attack. One officer was punched and bitten, while the other was strangled. Both officers were taken to the hospital for thorough tests and CT scans. BTp report both officers are now in stable condition and recuperating at home.

The chain of events originated in Battle, where the male allegedly assaulted a member of the public, his partner, and caused damage to a bus shelter. In the course of this incident, a Sussex police officer was also assaulted, and the male fled the scene.

Detectives from BTP Kent have taken the lead in the investigation, with night-shift officers providing support to the assaulted officers. Additionally, they are conducting CCTV inquiries in both Battle and Tunbridge Wells as part of the ongoing investigation.
