Person Found Safe After Major Air and Sea Search Near Eastbourne

Multiple rescue teams, helicopters, and an RNLI lifeboat were deployed off the Sussex coast on Wednesday afternoon as part of a large-scale emergency response.

HM Coastguard confirmed they were tasked at around 2:20pm to support Sussex Police in an incident that triggered a significant response from both air and sea assets.

Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bexhill, Birling Gap, Newhaven, and Eastbourne were deployed alongside the Eastbourne RNLI lifeboat and two Coastguard helicopters from Lydd and Solent. A fixed-wing aircraft was also observed circling the area.

In a statement to Sussex.News, a spokesperson for HM Coastguard confirmed:

“HM Coastguard tasked Bexhill, Birling Gap, Newhaven and Eastbourne Coastguard Rescue Teams, Eastbourne RNLI Lifeboat and two Coastguard helicopters, to assist Sussex Police with an incident near Eastbourne today, 3 July, at approximately 2:20pm. The individual involved was safely located by the Police.”

It remains unclear what prompted the initial emergency call, but authorities have confirmed the incident has now concluded with the individual found safe and well.
