Police appeal after pensioners coal stolen from a property in Battle

While on patrol a PCSO from Rother Police visited an elderly gentleman (85 years old) in Catsfield, Battle, who had reported bags of coal being stolen from outside his house – the coal is not visible from the road.

He states someone is taking approximately 2 bags a night.

The gentleman had enough coal to see him through the winter months, but this is now dwindling fast, and this is his only source of heating.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said “It is worrisome that someone is callous enough to do this.”

“With the man’s permission, we have referred him to Adult Social Services as he was clearly in need of assistance.”

“If you have any information about who could be stealing his coal, please call us on 101 quoting CAD 0529 of the 5/12/22.”
