Eastbourne police have made further arrests as part of Operation Portman, an ongoing investigation into motorcycle thefts in the area.
On Sunday, October 13, officers on patrol in Eastbourne spotted two motorcycles abandoned in a garden. The bikes were missing license plates and showed clear signs of tampering, leading police to suspect they had been stolen. After gaining access to the property, officers questioned two men on-site, resulting in their arrest. Both were taken into custody on suspicion of vehicle theft and possession of Class B drugs. One of the men was also arrested for assaulting an emergency worker.
Chief Inspector Nicklin commented on the operation, stating: “Whilst reports of stolen motorcycles across the district have begun to decrease, our determination to catch offenders and support victims of theft has not.”
Both suspects have since been released on bail as investigations continue. The stolen motorcycles have been recovered, and police are working to contact their rightful owners.
Chief Inspector Nicklin also urged motorcycle owners to remain vigilant, adding, “We continue to encourage owners of such vehicles to review their security and ensure motorcycles are securely left when not in use.”
Anyone with information regarding the thefts or who may have been a victim is encouraged to contact police online or call 101, quoting Operation Portman.
