Police Investigate Arson, Harassment and Weapons Offences at Brighton Council Depot

Sussex Police is investigating a series of serious offences linked to the Brighton and Hove City Council depot in Hollingdean.

The reported offences span from 2023 to 2025 and include criminal damage, possession of offensive weapons, harassment, arson, and other serious matters.

While some individual cases have been closed with no further lines of enquiry, several investigations remain ongoing or are still in their early stages. Police are continuing to gather evidence and information relating to all reports.

Chief Superintendent Rachel Carr, divisional commander for Brighton and Hove, said:
“The matters that have been reported to us are of a very serious and concerning nature. We have ensured appropriate resource is in place to conduct thorough investigations into all reported incidents and would urge any witnesses or anyone with information relating to these matters to come forward.”

Sussex Police also apologised for a previous statement which incorrectly implied that all investigations had concluded.
“We apologise for this and any distress caused,” added Chief Superintendent Carr.

Due to operational reasons, the police are unable to release specific details at this time. However, all incidents are under continual review and are being handled as part of a wider investigation named Operation Senate.

Anyone with information is asked to report online or call 101, quoting Operation Senate. In an emergency, dial 999. Information can also be shared anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
