Police Launch Murder Investigation After Brighton Home Attack Leaves One Dead

Police have launched a murder investigation following a serious incident in Hartfield Avenue, Brighton, that left one man dead and two others seriously injured.

Emergency services were called to the residential street shortly before 7.30am on Tuesday morning after reports of a man attacking multiple people inside a property.

Officers arrived to find a 57-year-old man with significant injuries. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman and a boy were also found inside the property with serious injuries. Both have been taken to hospital for treatment, where their conditions are currently being monitored.

A 19-year-old man from Brighton has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody as detectives continue their investigation.

Chief Superintendent Rachel Carr, Divisional Commander for Sussex Police, said:

“Following an emergency call to police, an immediate response was sent to Hartfield Avenue, where sadly, a man was found deceased, and a woman and child were found seriously injured.

“A suspect is in custody and a fast-moving investigation is underway to establish exactly what happened and why.

“This is a tragic incident and we understand it will cause shock and alarm among the local community. However, there is not believed to be a wider threat to the public at this time.”

A heightened police presence will remain in the area throughout the day as officers carry out door-to-door enquiries and conduct forensic investigations.

Police have confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Sussex Police online or call 101, quoting Operation Catullus.
