Police Release Image After Jewish Memorial Vandalised in Hove

Sussex Police have released an image of a man they wish to speak with following an incident of criminal damage to a Jewish memorial in Hove.

The incident took place around 3.30pm on Wednesday, 14 May, at Palmeira Square.

Police treating Incident as Hate Crime

A man, believed to be in his 30s, with long brown hair and wearing a grey T-shirt, grey trousers, and sunglasses, was seen leaving the area via Western Road shortly after the damage was reported.

Police attended the scene and conducted a search of the area, but the suspect was not located.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who recognises the man in the released image, or who may have relevant CCTV, mobile phone, or dashcam footage, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to report it to Sussex Police online or by calling 101, quoting serial 1036 of 14/05.

A police spokesperson said:

“We are treating this as a hate crime and are committed to thoroughly investigating the incident. We are aware of the wider tensions caused by global conflicts and are working closely with local communities to ensure safety and reassurance.”

Sussex Police encourage anyone who experiences threatening behaviour or feels unsafe to report it immediately.
