Police Trace and Arrest Suspect in Polegate Vehicle Crash

53-Year-Old Man Arrested for DUI and Drug Possession After Vehicle Found Damaged

Police have located and arrested a man in connection with a vehicle crash that left a car badly damaged off the A22 Hailsham Road near the Cophall Wood recycling centre.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 8:55 PM on Friday, June 7th, and discovered the vehicle amidst dense bushes and undergrowth. Despite a thorough search of the vehicle and the surrounding area, no occupants were initially found.

After several hours of enquiries, police successfully traced and located the suspect. The 53-year-old man was taken to the hospital for a check-up and was found to be uninjured. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and possession with intent to supply a controlled drug class B.

The man has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The damaged vehicle has been recovered, and the road was re-opened early on Saturday, June 8th. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
