Public alerts Coastguard to Yacht in trouble off Hastings coast

Eastbourne RNLI team was paged for the 2nd time of the day at 9:15 a.m. on September 18, 2023, following reports from vigilant members of the public. Concerned citizens had alerted the coastguard to a yacht battling the turbulent waves off the coast of Hastings. The All-Weather lifeboat was launched.

Upon arrival at the scene, the Eastbourne RNLI crew joined forces with Hastings RNLI’s Inshore lifeboat. Together, they discovered that the yacht was securely anchored and attached to a buoy, devoid of any occupants. After careful assessment, it was determined that there was no immediate risk to anyone involved adn were stood down.

However, the day held further challenges for the Hastings Coastguard team. Later in the afternoon, they were once again called to action, this time alongside HM Coastguard Bexhill, responding to the same vessel that had broken free from its anchor and come aground on the beach at Hastings. The teams ensured that no lives were at risk. Once this was confirmed, the matter was handed over to the Local Authority, and the teams were stood down.
