Residents told to stay inside as fire breaks out in Lewes Road, Brighton

A deserted property located on Gladstone Terrace, Brighton, caught fire earlier today, at around 7pm, prompting the response of East Fire and Rescue Service. Crews are still battling the blaze, which has led to a significant amount of smoke in the surrounding neighborhood.

The Fire and Rescue Service deployed four fire appliances and an Aerial Ladder Appliance to contain the fire. Residents have been cautioned to stay indoors and keep their windows and doors shut to avoid exposure to the smoke.

As of now, there have been no reported casualties or injuries. The severity of the structural damage to the building remains to be assessed once the fire is under control.

Officials are now urging people to avoid the vicinity of Gladstone Terrace until the fire has been fully extinguished, and smoke has cleared to ensure public safety.

A spokesperson for ESFRS commented: “We are in attendance and the fire is believed to be affecting an outbuilding.

“We have been using two main jets and an aerial platform and there are four pumps in attendance at the moment.”
