Selsey lifeboat launched to reports of two people cut off by the tide

Selsey RNLI inshore lifeboat launched yesterday (29th of November 2022), after reports of two people cut off by the tide.

The D class inshore lifeboat was launched at 10.52am on Tuesday 29 November after a member of the public approached the station mechanic saying he had seen two people cut off by the tide on the Kirk Arrow shingle bank.

The Coxswain phoned the UK Coastguard and reported it to them who requested the launch of the D class.

The inshore lifeboat was on scene at 10.55am but with nothing visual they approached the beach where some members of the public walking.

These people saw what appeared to be people on the shingle bank but they disappeared when they looked again so assumed it was birds.

This was reported to the Coastguards who were happy to stand the lifeboat down to return to station after a search around the bank.

The weather on scene was wind force 3-4 NNE with a smooth sea in overcast sky.

The inshore lifeboat returned to station at 11.07am and was recovered straight away. The incident was logged as a false alarm with good intent.
