Serial burglar William Djama jailed for Brighton break-ins

William Djama, 35, a man with no fixed address, was found guilty of four counts of burglary and has been sentenced to five years and nine months in prison. The sentence was handed down at Lewes Crown Court on Friday, 8 September.

Djama’s crime spree began in December 2022, when he targeted homes across Brighton and Hove. His modus operandi involved breaking into ground floor windows and stealing electrical items, which he later sold at pawn shops.

The first burglary was reported on 10 December on Centurion Road in Brighton. A resident of Somerhill Avenue in Hove disturbed Djama during a burglary four days later and chased him out of a downstairs window. On 19 December, another burglary was reported on Springfield Road. The fourth break-in occurred on Queensbury Mews.

Detective Constable James Botting said: “We understand the terrible impact burglary has on victims, particularly the level of harm caused by prolific offenders like William Djama. We will always do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice and remain committed to attending every report of residential burglary in person.”

Djama’s arrest on 4 January followed an investigation that uncovered CCTV footage and receipts linking him to the stolen items. His sentence also activated a suspended sentence from August 2022 for previous burglaries.

DC Botting urged victims of burglary or any other crime to report it to Sussex Police online, via 101 or by calling 999 in an emergency.
