Shoreham all-weather lifeboat launched on Monday evening in freezing conditions to a 12m fishing boat which had sent out a distress signal.
The vessel with one person on board had suffered engine failure 16 miles southwest of Shoreham. Another vessel initially went to their aid before the Lifeboat towed them to the safety of Shoreham Port.
Despite half of the lifeboat crew and volunteers being out at sea on a rescue for more than four hours on Monday night, those who stayed on land were still able to help the Rotary Club Santa sleigh make its way around the Middle Road and Church Green areas of Shoreham.
They collected £465 for local charities.
Shoreham Lifeboat said, “Thank you to everyone who braved a very cold night to see Santa and who gave so generously.”
“We will be back collecting with the Santa sleigh around Shoreham Beach next Monday (19 December) from 5.45pm””
