Shoreham RNLI crew’s swift response saves two kayakers

Friday Afternoon – Two kayakers in distress were successfully rescued by the Shoreham Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) inside Shoreham Harbour. The kayakers had been seen struggling against the elements, calling for help as they were being pushed dangerously against the harbour wall by the strong offshore wind.

The Shoreham RNLI, responding swiftly to the call for help, dispatched their inshore lifeboat to the scene. Upon arrival, the lifeboat crew found the pair in immediate peril due to the challenging sea conditions. Without hesitation, the two kayakers were rescued and taken into the lifeboat.

Both individuals were safely transported back to the lifeboat station, where they were given warm drinks and blankets to counteract the chill of their ordeal. Thanks to the quick response and professionalism of the Shoreham RNLI crew, what could have been a serious incident resulted in no injuries.

The RNLI took the opportunity to reiterate their safety message, reminding water users to always check sea and weather conditions before venturing out onto the water. The organisation stressed the importance of knowing when conditions are safe and when to stay onshore.

In a statement issued by the Shoreham RNLI, they firmly emphasised, “If in doubt, don’t go out.”

These words serve as a simple yet crucial reminder for all those planning to enjoy the water this summer. As the sea can change quickly, staying aware of the weather and sea conditions could be the key to avoiding situations like this in the future.
