Social Media Posts Lead to Terrorism Charges for Hove Man

Comments made on platform X in October 2023 lead to multiple charges.

A man from Hove has been charged with terrorism and hate crime offences following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE).

Dylan Evans, 58, of York Road, was formally charged on Tuesday (23 April) with support for a proscribed organisation, namely Hamas, contrary to section 12(1) of the Terrorism Act 2000.

He also faces two additional charges of intending to stir up racial hatred, under section 19 of the Public Order Act 1986.

The charges relate to a series of comments allegedly made by Evans on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in October 2023.

Evans has been released on conditional bail and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 23 May.

Hamas is a proscribed terrorist organisation in the UK under the Terrorism Act 2000, meaning it is a criminal offence to express support for the group.

Police have confirmed that their investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Counter Terrorism Policing or report anonymously via Crimestoppers.
