Suspect Surrenders After Brighton Hate Crime Appeal

Sussex Police continues investigation after suspect turns himself in.

A 39-year-old man from Brighton has been arrested after turning himself in to police in connection with a hate crime incident near the city’s iconic Clock Tower.

The arrest follows a public appeal by Sussex Police on Thursday, November 14, which included an image of a man officers wished to identify. The incident, reported on November 9, has also been the subject of a widely circulated video on social media.

The man is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.

In response to the incident, Sussex Police have acknowledged the potential for heightened tensions in the community. Officers are working closely with local groups and partners to ensure public safety and promote reassurance.

A Sussex Police spokesperson stated: “We take reports of hate crimes extremely seriously. We are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of everyone in our community.”

The force has urged anyone experiencing threatening behaviour or concerned for their safety to come forward. Reports can be made online or by calling 101, with 999 reserved for emergencies.
