Teen Suspect Caught in Brighton for Supplying Class A Drugs

A suspect was apprehended in Brighton for alleged possession of heroin and crack cocaine with the intention of distribution.

The Specialist Enforcement Unit (SEU) conducted patrols in the St James’s Street area, aiming to disrupt local drug trafficking activities.

During these patrols on Thursday, January 4, officers noticed suspicious activities, including potential drug transactions.

These patrols led to two arrests in different cases, resulting in the seizure of drugs and cash, which are set to be confiscated.

Shy Ponsonby-Way, 18, previously residing in Brighton, was detained and brought to police custody.

The Brighton Community Investigation Team’s probe resulted in Ponsonby-Way being charged with two counts of possession of a Class A drug (crack cocaine and heroin) with intent to supply, possession of cannabis, and holding or acquiring illegal property.

Ponsonby-Way appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Friday, January 5, and was granted bail for a forthcoming hearing at Lewes Crown Court on February 2.

The investigation into the second suspect from a distinct incident is ongoing.
