UPDATED: Triple Lifeboat and Coastguard Response to Separate Sea Incidents Across Sussex Coast

Worthing missing person found safe, red flare sparks search off Brighton, and new operation underway at Beachy Head

Emergency services have been called to three separate incidents along the Sussex coast today (Wednesday), prompting a large-scale response from the RNLI, HM Coastguard, and rescue helicopter crews.

🔹 Worthing – Missing Person Found Safe

At 5:16pm, Shoreham RNLI’s All-Weather Lifeboat (ALB) was launched after reports of a missing person in Worthing.

A HM Coastguard spokesperson said:

“At around 5pm this evening, HM Coastguard was called to reports of a missing person in Worthing, West Sussex.
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Shoreham and Littlehampton were sent, alongside Shoreham’s inshore and all-weather lifeboats.
Sussex Police was also informed.
The search was stood down after the person was located safe and well.”

🔹 Brighton Marina – Red Flare Triggers Search

Soon after, Shoreham ALB and the Brighton RNLI lifeboat were retasked to Brighton Marina, following reports of a person in the water.
Coastguard Rescue Teams and Rescue Helicopter 175 from Solent were also deployed.

A red flare was seen from a nearby boat, prompting lifeboats to head in that direction. It is not yet confirmed whether the person was located. Updates have been requested from HM Coastguard and the RNLI.

🔹 Beachy Head – New Search Operation Underway

Now, a third incident is underway near Beachy Head. Initial reports of car has driven off
Eastbourne RNLI’s Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) has launched, supported by local Coastguard teams and the Coastguard helicopter from Lydd.

Details of this incident are still emerging, and emergency services remain on scene.
