Two Men Charged After Gatwick Cannabis Seizure Linked to Hove Flat Raid

Police Seize Jewellery, Cash and Cannabis in Boulevard Place Raid

A man has been remanded in custody and another bailed after a major drugs bust linked to Gatwick Airport led police to a flat in Hove.

Officers from Sussex Police investigating the importation of cannabis through London Gatwick on 7 May raided an address in Boulevard Place, Hove, the following day.

Inside the property, officers discovered a suitcase packed with cannabis, with an estimated street value of tens of thousands of pounds. They also seized jewellery and large quantities of cash suspected to be linked to criminal activity.

Two men were arrested at the scene:

Zakaria Deghayes, 23, of Chichester Drive West, Saltdean

Husam Emsalm, 18, of Whitehawk Crescent, Brighton

Both were charged with:

Possession with intent to supply Class B drugs (cannabis)

Acquiring, using, or possessing criminal property

They appeared before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 9 May, where Deghayes was remanded in custody, and Emsalm was granted bail.

The case has now been escalated to Lewes Crown Court, where both men are scheduled to appear for a plea hearing on 6 June.

Detective Sergeant Ian Warncken of Gatwick CID said:

“This was a significant discovery of drugs, and we are continuing to investigate the circumstances of this incident.
Anyone with information is asked to come forward, quoting serial 251 of 07/05.”
