Update: ESFRS responds to blaze at Eastbourne commercial building

In the early hours of the morning, at 00:21, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) responded to reports of a fire on the second floor of a commercial building situated on Upperton Road, Eastbourne. Fire crews from Eastbourne, Pevensey, Seaford, Herstmonceux, Heathfield, Bexhill, and Hailsham, along with three officers, were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon their arrival, the dedicated firefighters utilised forceable entry tools to gain access to the building. Equipped with breathing apparatus, a team of 12 firefighters entered the premises armed with two hose reel jets and two thermal imaging cameras, ready to combat the flames.

The skilled firefighters successfully extinguished the fire, preventing further damage to the property. Once the flames were under control, the crews employed a fan to effectively ventilate the building, ensuring the premises were cleared of smoke.

A spokesperson for ESFRS confirmed, “The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental.” Throughout the incident, the police and ambulance services were also present, collaborating with the ESFRS to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.

Thankfully, there were no reports of casualties resulting from the fire.
