UPDATE: Man Dies in Eastbourne After Being Pulled from the Sea

Man Pulled From Water and Transferred to Shore by Lifeboat Crew

A man in his 50s from Eastbourne has tragically passed away after being pulled from the sea off the coast of Eastbourne, East Sussex, on Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 1:25 pm on 22nd October, coastguards were alerted to a person in distress in the water. The Eastbourne Inshore Lifeboat was launched immediately, accompanied by a coastguard helicopter from Lydd and local coastguard teams, to aid in the rescue operation.

The lifeboat crew swiftly located and retrieved the man, bringing him ashore where paramedics, coastguards, and police were waiting. A coastguard helicopter paramedic was winched down onto the beach to assist with the medical emergency.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, Sussex Police confirmed later in the day that the man had been pronounced dead. A police spokesperson stated:

“Police were called following concerns for a man in the sea off the coast of Eastbourne at around 2:10 pm on Tuesday, 22nd October. Emergency services responded to the scene, but sadly, the man was pronounced deceased. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. There are no suspicious circumstances, and the matter will now be handled by the coroner.”
