UPDATE: Stepping Up the Fight Against Anti-Social Behaviour in Barnham

Operation Precinct: Stepping Up the Fight Against Anti-Social Behaviour in Barnham

Sussex Police, in a collaborative effort with British Transport Police, Southern Rail, and local entities including schools and businesses like Tesco and Co-op, have intensified their measures against rising youth crime and anti-social behaviour in the Barnham and Yapton areas. The initiative, dubbed Operation Precinct, was launched in February following growing concerns within the community.

In a proactive move, a public meeting was convened on April 4 at Barnham Community Hall, where residents voiced their concerns and discussed strategies to enhance local safety. The dialogue led to a commitment to deploy additional security measures, including increased patrols by the British Transport Police and further engagement with Arun District Council and the Safer Arun Partnership.

Chief Inspector Will Keating-Jones emphasised the community’s central role in these efforts, noting the comprehensive strategies devised in response to resident feedback. The initiative’s success is evident in its results: 14 arrests under Operation Precinct, several youths engaged in intervention programs, and the issuance of Community Protection Warnings to deter future offences.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any criminal activities promptly, ensuring that Barnham and Yapton not only feel safe but are safe. Through these concerted efforts, Sussex Police and their partners aim to restore peace and order, reaffirming their commitment to the community’s well-being.
