Vandals Target Old St Helens Church, Hastings

Scheduled Ancient Monument in Hastings Damaged: Police Investigate

Hastings Police have announced an increase in patrols around the Old St Helens Church following a significant vandalism incident. Between May 9th and May 16th, individuals gained unauthorized access to the enclosed area of the site and caused extensive damage by smashing sandstone blocks in and around the Tower wall. The destruction has resulted in considerable damage to this historic structure.

Old St Helens Church is recognized as a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Grade 2 listed building, making it one of the oldest standing structures in Hastings. The site holds immense historical value, and the recent vandalism has raised serious concerns among the community and local authorities.

Hastings Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Those who may have witnessed suspicious activity or have any details that could lead to identifying the perpetrators are encouraged to contact the police.
