Vehicle submerged at Selsey East Beach

A vehicle was fully submerged in the sea at East Beach Dive Rampon Saturday (26th August 2023), prompting a response from the Selsey Coastguard. The team was paged to provide safety cover in what appeared to be a mishap that took place while the vehicle was attempting to launch.

Quickly arriving on the scene, the Coastguard ensured the safety of the area while operations to recover the vehicle were underway. “We are incredibly grateful to the public for their patience and cooperation during the time the area was cordoned off,” a spokesperson for the Selsey Coastguard remarked.

By 20:00, the situation had been dealt with, allowing the team to stand down and return to their station. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

The East Beach Dive Ramp, known for its steep decline towards its seaward end, can pose hazards, particularly when conditions are slippery. The Coastguard has taken this opportunity to advise the public to exercise utmost caution when using the ramp for launching purposes.
