Newhaven’s Lifeboat and Coastguard were called into action on Monday, May 8, 2023, at 6:04 p.m. following a call received by the Coastguard. The report indicated that two individuals were stranded after their boat experienced a breakdown near Seaford Splash Point.
Arriving at the scene the Lifeboat crew deployed their Y Boat, a vessel designed for such rescue operations. They successfully reached the stranded individuals, prioritising their well-being and ensuring their swift transfer onto the All-Weather Lifeboat (ALB).

With the casualties safely aboard the ALB, the Lifeboat crew turned their attention back to the disabled vessel, a broken-down RIB (rigid inflatable boat). The Y Boat crew recovered the incapacitated boat and towed it to Seaford Beach. There, awaiting Coastguards carried the boat back up the beach.
To complete the operation, the Lifeboat returned to the ALB, shuttling the relieved passengers back to safety. The Newhaven Coastguard took over the care of the rescued individuals.
