Police in Eastbourne carried out a focused Day of Action last week, targeting crime hotspots in the town centre and Devonshire Ward following concerns raised by local residents.
Officers conducted multiple patrols and stop-and-searches as part of the operation, which aimed to crack down on anti-social behaviour, drug offences, and other criminal activity affecting the community.
As a result of the proactive policing, two individuals were arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs.
One of the individuals, Alexander Ashton, 36, of no fixed address, was also found to be carrying an offensive weapon. He has been charged and bailed to appear at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on 2 July.
Chief Inspector Mark Evans, of Eastbourne Police, said:
“We hope to send a clear message: criminal activity in our town will not be tolerated.
We are grateful to all residents who continue reporting concerns—these patrols clearly demonstrate the importance of that information. We are listening and taking action.”
The operation follows continued community engagement by Sussex Police, with officers working closely with local partners to reduce harm, tackle crime, and maintain visible policing in known problem areas.
Residents are encouraged to continue reporting suspicious behaviour or criminal activity by contacting police online or calling 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.
