Wizz Air to Launch Low-Cost Direct Flights from Gatwick to Jeddah in 2025

Wizz Air has announced that its first Airbus A321XLR (Extra Long Range) aircraft will be joining the Wizz Air UK fleet in March 2025. Based at London Gatwick, this new addition will mark a significant expansion in intercontinental travel, beginning with a direct route from Gatwick to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Airbus A321XLR, known for its extended reach and efficiency, will open up new travel possibilities for passengers, offering direct access to long-haul destinations at lower fares. The Gatwick-Jeddah flight, lasting nearly seven hours, will be priced from £134.99, with tickets already on sale via Wizz Air’s website and app.

József Váradi, Wizz Air’s CEO, highlighted the significance of the aircraft, stating: “The Airbus A321XLR is the most cost-efficient in its class. Its range allows us to connect distant destinations, providing more opportunities for expansion. The new Gatwick-Jeddah route underscores our commitment to offering unbeatable fares.”

Wizz Air’s UK presence has grown since establishing its Gatwick base in 2020, where it now operates five A321neo aircraft, employs 259 staff, and flies to 26 destinations across 17 countries. Stewart Wingate, CEO of London Gatwick, welcomed the development: “Wizz Air’s consistent growth at Gatwick since 2020 has been impressive. The A321XLR will expand our intercontinental network and enhance travel opportunities.”

The Airbus A321XLR also supports Wizz Air’s environmental goals, with its carbon intensity estimated to be at least 30% lower than that of competitors. The airline has consistently improved its operations and customer service, achieving a 99.5% flight completion rate in the UK in 2024.

Wizz Air’s commitment to affordable, sustainable, and long-range travel looks set to reshape the travel landscape, with the Gatwick-Jeddah route the first of many to benefit from this next-generation aircraft.
