Woman Accused of Offender Assistance and Assault on Officers in Newhaven

Sussex Police Detain Woman on Charges of Aiding Offender and Assaulting Officers

A 31-year-old woman has been arrested in Newhaven under suspicion of aiding an offender in escaping lawful custody, as confirmed by Sussex Police. The arrest followed a distress call concerning the woman at The Drove, Newhaven, on Monday evening.

Police Respond to Distress Call in Newhaven

Around 9 p.m. on Monday, Sussex Police received a report indicating that a woman was in distress at The Drove. Officers promptly arrived at the scene and, after assessing the situation, took the 31-year-old woman into custody. The initial arrest was based on suspicion that she had assisted an offender in escaping from lawful detention.

While detained, the woman allegedly committed further offenses, leading to additional charges. She was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assaulting three police officers during the incident.

The woman remains in custody as investigations proceed, with authorities examining her possible involvement in assisting the offender’s escape and the subsequent alleged assaults on police officers.

Sussex Police have yet to disclose further details regarding the identity of the offender she allegedly assisted or any connection between the two parties. The investigation continues, and officials are working to determine the full scope of her involvement.
