Woman in Her 80s Seriously Hurt in Brighton Collision

Witnesses Sought for Collision Involving Two Vehicles

Emergency services were called to Eastern Road, Brighton, near the Royal Sussex County Hospital, on Thursday (January 9) at approximately 1:40 PM following reports of a woman trapped between two vehicles. Sussex Police confirmed that the woman, aged in her 80s, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said, “Emergency services were called to Eastern Road at around 1:40 PM to a report of a woman trapped between two vehicles. The woman, who is in her 80s, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

Roads Closed During Emergency Response

The incident prompted the closure of part of Eastern Road and Sudley Place while emergency teams worked to manage the situation. Police confirmed that both roads have since been reopened. The statement added, “Part of Eastern Road and Sudley Place were closed while we dealt with the incident. Both roads have now reopened.”

Fire and Rescue Services Involved in Rescue

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) also attended the scene at Bristol Gate, where firefighters assisted in rescuing the injured woman. According to an ESFRS spokesperson, “Firefighters assisted with the rescue of one person involved in the incident. The casualty was handed over to the care of paramedics.”

The rescue operation saw coordinated efforts between Sussex Police, ESFRS, and paramedics to ensure the woman received swift and effective care.

Police Seek Witnesses and Footage

Sussex Police are now appealing for information from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has relevant footage. The spokesperson urged, “Witnesses or anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage of the collision is asked to come forward. Information can be reported online, quoting serial 601 of 09/01.”
