Air Mauritius relocates operations to London Gatwick Airport to meet growing demand

Air Mauritius, the national airline of Mauritius, has announced that it will be increasing its capacity to London with daily operations to London Gatwick Airport starting from Sunday 29 October 2023. The airline is currently operating five weekly flights to London Heathrow Airport (LHR), but will be moving its operations to London Gatwick Airport (LGW) to better meet the increasing demand on the route.

The new daily service will use a mix of the latest generation aircraft, the Airbus A350-900 and A330-900neo, in a Business and an Economy class configuration. The flight timings for the new service are as follows:

  • Flight number MK 042 will operate from MRU-LGW every Monday to Sunday, departing at 23:05 and arriving at 07:00 local time the next day.
  • Flight number MK 053 will operate from LGW-MRU every Monday to Sunday, departing at 15:55 and arriving at 07:15 local time the next day.

Krešimir Kučko, CEO of Air Mauritius, said that London has always been a high-priority destination for the airline, and that the move to London Gatwick Airport allows Air Mauritius to use its most environmentally friendly types of aircraft while meeting the increasing demand on the route. He added that the new service will further strengthen the airline’s relationship with valued customers from the UK and connecting markets.

The announcement of daily operations to London Gatwick Airport comes as part of the commemoration of Air Mauritius’ 50 years of operations to the United Kingdom in November 2023. London Gatwick Airport is located south of Central London and is easily accessible by the Gatwick Express train service, which links the airport to London Victoria Station in just 30 minutes.
