Appeal for Witnesses After Pedestrian Killed in Cowfold Collision

A 44-year-old man from West Chiltington tragically lost his life following a collision with a Mercedes on the A272 Bolney Road; a London man has been arrested.

Police are urgently appealing for witnesses following a tragic incident in Cowfold where a pedestrian was killed in a collision on the A272 Bolney Road. The incident occurred shortly after 1am on Saturday, 31 August.

Officers were called to the scene where a grey Mercedes had struck a 44-year-old man from West Chiltington. Despite the swift response of police, paramedics, and members of the public, who administered CPR, the victim was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers during this difficult time.

A 31-year-old man from London has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving and causing death by careless driving. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Police are appealing to anyone with information about the incident, particularly those who may have dash cam or CCTV footage, to come forward. Information can be provided by emailing collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, quoting Operation Cambrose.
