East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) responded to a significant fire at a domestic garage on Green Ridge, Brighton, today, 12 December 2024. The emergency call came in at 11:28 a.m., prompting an immediate response from four fire engines.
The fire, which quickly intensified, has required the deployment of additional resources. By 12:20 p.m., a total of eight fire engines and an aerial ladder platform had been dispatched to the scene. The garage, connected to a residential property, housed six vehicles, adding complexity to the firefighting efforts.
As of 11:50 a.m., ESFRS confirmed that all individuals at the property were accounted for, and no injuries have been reported. Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area to ensure safety and facilitate the ongoing emergency operations.
Extensive Damage and Precautionary Measures
The fire has caused substantial damage to the property, with the roof of the garage partially collapsing. Fire crews are using specialized firefighting foam and the aerial ladder platform to control and extinguish the flames.
In addition to the fire damage, large plumes of smoke are affecting the surrounding area. Residents nearby are advised to keep their doors and windows closed to minimize exposure to smoke.
An ESFRS spokesperson commented, “Our crews are working tirelessly to contain the fire and ensure the safety of the surrounding properties. We appreciate the cooperation of local residents in staying clear of the area.”
Ongoing Operations
As of 1:00 p.m., firefighters continue to battle the blaze. Investigators will assess the scene once the fire is under control to determine the cause.
