Brutal assault on rail worker in Crawley: CCTV image released

British Transport Police (BTP) detectives have released a CCTV image of a man suspected to have been involved in a severe assault on a railway staff member. The incident occurred at Crawley station at around 4.05 pm on 25 June.

The staff member was manning the gate line when the suspect forced his way through without a ticket. When the employee challenged the man, he was punched and brutally assaulted, with the assailant even stamping on his head.

The victim suffered significant injuries, including three fractures to the eye, a fractured jaw, and a shoulder fracture. As a result of the attack, the staff member’s condition is serious, but stable, according to sources close to the incident.

The BTP believe the man caught on the CCTV footage may possess crucial information that could further their investigation.

Detectives have called for the public’s assistance in identifying the man. If anyone recognises the individual in the image or has any information that could aid in the investigation, they are urged to contact the BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting the reference number 435 of 25/06/23.

In addition, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111. Authorities are appealing to anyone with information to come forward, promising that all tips will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
